The Old Dominion Bible! (well maybe not bible but you catch my drift)

If you are going to attend OldDominion University then there are a few places and things you should know if you want to stay healthy, active and have fun. To start things of you will need to know about some healthy eateries so that you can advoid the freshman fifthteen. Our first stop on our journey is at Tropical Smoothie located in the village directly behind The Ted Constant Center. They have a vast variety of smoothies and meals that make for excellent healthy meal. In addition this is a great place to eat at after a workout or cardio session. The next eatery you need to make a trip to is Panera Bread. This can be found off the intersection of 21st street and monticello ave and this is the part of the venture where you will need some type of transportation. The trip is well worth it, once you get a taste of their freshly made sandwiches or inavative soup selections you wont worry about the five minute car ride or the fact that it is very healthy for you. Now that i've showed you wear to eat a heathly meal im going to show you were to whip that body into shape. Our Next stop on this adventure is the Old Dominon Rec Center which is located on 48th and powhatan ave. This is ODU's new state of the art Recreation facility and our first stop inside is the first floor where all the major equipment is located. This is where the real workout is and if you put in time on this level you will definitely get the results you want. Across from the first floor workout area is where the Fitness Studio located. These studios are where numerous of classroom exercises and fun workouts are held. All you need to do is check the list, see what interests you and the show up to the class at the appropriate time. One of the most popular classes is zumba, a dance workout class that is offered. So you may want to check that class out when you have a chance. Our last stop is the upstairs of the the Rec Center. This is the Cardio Workout Area and is host to numerous treadmills, two variations of bike machines, a track for running, and numourous other elipitical machines. If you are ever in the need to burn those unwanted calories then this is defintently the floor you need to be on. Not to mention the four 40 inch flat screen t.v's on the wall for you viewing pleasure. Now that you know these places around campus I hope your freshman year goes great and advoid unhealthy habits. Reflection Time

I believe my blogs have came a long way from day 1 blog about health in general.I went from just talking about losing weight and overeating to how the students here at odu are not utilizing the facilities built to help us stay in shape and healthy. I put in a lot of time with making sure that everyone is aware of what we have here on campus and where it can be found at. I even live my blogs. On any day you can come to the gym and see me doing something i wrote about in my blogs. The only thing that i wish i could have done better was to get more people to actually read my blogs. Reason being is that there is alot of people at odu that would benefit greatly from them. Plus it took me to the end of the semester to learn about other networking places ,such as twitter, that i could have gotten my blogs out there. So if i could go back in time and do something differnt i would have networked better basically. But i dont think i would have done anything else differently because i thought i reached all my goals this semester and some. Reason being that i got through this class without rambling on in blogs and that i actually made choices in my life from actually being interested in this topic i was gaven. So all in all i think this was the way i wanted my blogs and experience to be.

Okay, Who Done It?!?!

Recently the new rec center has put into effect a new policy on towels. You have to check them out now! Why you ask? Because someone or more than likely people stole 400 towles from the gym. So instead having a towel to lay down on the benches to reduce sweat or to keep others sweat from getting on you, we have nothing. No one is in the mood to check out a towel then check a sweaty towel back in at the end of your workout. This is really a bad look on the rec centers part because people could get hurt or possible sick. Hopefully they will fix this problem by next semester.

An Added Boost! (No Jose Canseco)

Are you looking for a little extra boost while you are in the gym? Well i have the answer for you all! Its called Glutamine and is the most abundant amino acid (building block of protein) in muscle cells. It is released from the muscle during times of stress (such as hard weight training workouts) and dieting. So this is no steriod or illegal bulk building pill, instead its perfectly legal and safe. The effects of this pill can be that little mphfff you need and they are listed here.

1. Regulation of protein synthesis (this is one of the ways in which steroids exert their muscle building effects).

2. Accelerating glycogen synthesis after a workout.

3. Sparing the use of the glycogen stored in the muscle cell (recall that the glycogen stored in the muscle cell is what gives the cell the healthy volume and firmness that you seek).

4. Faster recuperation from weight training workouts.

For more information click here and these pills can be purchased at your local GNC

Zumba!

There is this new class called Zumba at the new rec center at odu. It is a great new way to shed pounds throught dancing. It is mostly a female oriented class that uses salsa, club, and reggeatone dance moves. I had the pleasure to attend a class and it was was a very upbeat class. The class has non-stop dancing with a few breaks and will have u sweating out the fat in no time. My Jessica Gordon is the instructor at our school and she is a very good instructor. After one of her classes all i heard was girls talking about how they couldnt wait till the next class. So if you ever want to ditch the workout and join the party below are a list of the times she will be odu and holding a Zumba class.

1 Zumba Thursday 06:00 PM ODU Student Recreation Center

2 Zumba Friday 05:15 PM ODU Student Recreation Center

3 Zumba Sunday 03:00 PM ODU Student Recreation Center

No More Tickets!!!!

Old Dominion University has built a new recreational facility for its student body and falcuty. It is state of the art in design as well as the different activities it encompasses. Everything is as what was promised and expected from the new facility but there is one major problem. Where do you park your car at? Theres a lot next to it but if you park there than you will get a $22 dollar ticket. There is plenty of open spots for parking on the street leading to the gym but once again you will get either a warning or a $22 dollar ticket. You could park across the street in front of whitehurst but that only 2 hour parking so you better hope your in and out. Then there is powatan parking lot but i have seen odu parking officials hand out tickets for parking there. So where is it okay to park at? Is it understood that everyone has to walk no matter how far away you live or not? Or is this new gym just a demo because it seems like its no safe way to get there. Lois Simmons an official at the office of parking and public transportation said, "The school is working on building a garage for the facility and for now we just have to bear with them and they will try and cut us some slack." To me something else needs to be done immediately because its already a recesion and we students do not need more bills than we already have.

New Gym, Same Familiar Tune

So ODU opened its new gym two weeks ago and boy was there a big buzz. The first day it opened it was packed! I mean all three basketball courts full, rock climbing wall crowded, racketball courts booked solid and the weight lifting area full of new faces. Now after about two or three weeks have pasted it seems like the buzz went with it. I go everyday to workout and lift and only see the same faces as i did from the webb center facility and the 47th street wharehouse gym. Sure are sum new faces but most are there for the new addidtions made to the facility such as racketball and cycling class. So it seems like nothing much has changed around Old Dominion. Its just another new gym but the same ole tune.

How often do you eat fast food in a week?
